These are the file formats that we use...

pdf files: Require Adobe Acrobat Reader to open them. If you have Acrobat Reader these files will open in a new browser window. You can print them or you can highlight parts of the text and cut and copy it to the word processor of your choice.
html files: These are web pages. They will load into your web browser. If you want to save them onto your hard disc you may need to save any pictures separately
doc files: These are MS Word documents. They will open in MS Word or any MS Office compatible word processor eg. StarOffice.
rtf files: Will open with any word processor that can read Rich Text Format files (eg Microsoft Word). These files are easier to save to your hard disc and easy to edit for yourself.
txt files: These are plain text files that can be opened in any word processor or text processor (and on any computer eg. Acorn or Apple)
ppt or pps files: These are presentations produced by MS Powerpoint. They are very useful for whole class use, especially if you are using a data projector.
te files TextEase files. TextEase also uses a number of other file types which we are happy to carry. These files should be readable by versions of TextEase running on Windows, Apple or Acorn platforms.
xls files: Spreadsheet files for Microsoft Excel.
zip files:
(These are usually .zip or .exe)
These are compressed archives (files that have been squashed to make them download more quickly. Download to your hard disc and then unzip with a  program such as Winzip or Zip Central). You can download Zip Central for free from zipcentral). You will also need the appropriate program (such as MS Word) to read the files contained in the zip file.
