Ajkids
This is the child-friendly version of Ask Jeeves. You can type in questions in natural language and the engine makes a good attempt at figuring out what you mean. Lots of results.

This is the Vaultman's favourite search tool. It has a very simple, uncluttered interface. There are no fancy graphics or adverts to load and it comes up with lots of relevant results very quickly. A first class search facility.

This site is funded by Packard-Bell. It features 'Filamantality' Internet hunts. Tell the site your topic and it will produce a list of questions and a list of sites giving the information. Plus recommended topis 'How to get 70% of marks in an assignment'

This is GOOD! A metasearch engine (ie it takes your query and searches lots of search engines for you). It is quick and returns star rated results. There is an excellent Teachers page with direct searches of major education sites such as NGfL and BECTa and a links list of over 100 useful sites. There is also a children's Safe Search page with similar direct searches and  a kid's Links List. This could be the only search engine you need!
Searchezee Power Search
This is a meta search engine. You type in your query and choose one of 200 search engines to submit it to. The search engines are categorized to help you choose the best one for your purpose.
Skali
A Search engine with a Far Eastern focus. Useful for information about Malaysia and China.
Squirrelnet
This site is excellent for those wishing to use search engines effectively. It is American based, but the advice holds good using whatever search engine. You could save yourself a great deal of time by learning a few of the useful tips from this site!
WoYaa
This is a search engine and catalogue of African origin which concentrates on Africa related topics.
Yahooligans
This is Yahoo's children's site. It has an extensive and useful catalogue and search facilities, too. Worth introducing your pupils to.
