BECTa - British
Educational Communications & Technology agency
BECTa is the quango that looks after educational ICT on behalf of HM Govt. If you are
looking for advice about using ICT you could do much worse than look at BECTa's ICT ADVICE website. There is a very
useful Ask an Expert
section, which has a different focus each month. In June 2002, for example, the focus is
the Foundation Stage. Content will include how to develop ICT in the Foundation Stage, how
to use ICT to support the Early Learning Goals and how to use the Internet with young
children.

This web site offers (free) a monitoring and filtering software package to schools. Among
the features in the professional version is the ability to block student access to

Information and help in using HTML to build web pages and websites.
Although it claims to be suitable for beginners, this site would, in
my opinion, be of more use to those who have an idea of what HTML is
and how it works. It could be very useful in taking you forward if
you have used some of the more basic sites listed here. There is
some excellent stuff here and it could prove very useful if you are
starting to build web pages from raw code. There is a very helpful
advice forum.
ICWebs
ICWebs is the web design side of ICTeachers, offering design and
management services for schools. This site gives you full details
and links you to sample sites that have been produced by our own web
team.
Kent NGfL Web
Project

A really useful collection of advice about building your own school website. The index
page has lins to a collection of documents giving both basic instructions and advice about
things like adding search engines and counters to your site. There is also a collection of
images that you can use. Excellent
Lissa Explains It All
This site explains in terms kids can understand how websites work and all the basics of
HTML code. It is colourful and lively but supported by advertising.
School Icons Club
A great place for icons, buttons, backgrounds and other graphics for your school or
persoal website. All for free.

This is the company that produces and markets Clicker and Word Bar. Clicker gives you a
grid of cells which can be individually programmed to insert text etc. into word
processors. Especially useful for children with reading / writing difficulties since you
can, for example put pictures in cells and program it so that clicking on a cell enters
the word that the picture represents.There is much more to it than that - take a look! For

WEEE Recycle
You can no longer just throw away
that old computer. There are now laws about how you can get rid of
old equipment. WEEE stands for Waste from Electrical and
Electronic Equipment and their website tells you what you need
to know.
ZipCentral
If your computer files take up too much room on your disc, or you have downloaded a .zip
file and can't open it, you need a zip utility program. This is the one the Vaultman uses
and it's totally free.

This site has a series of free animated tutorials which provide step
by step guides to Word Processing, Using Email, Modelling effects on
screen, Spreadsheets, Multimedia presentations, Using the Internet
and Making a Web Page. Nice and simple. Tutorials can be used online
or downloaded and used offline. (This site was formerly known as the
ICT Toolbox) Excellent!
BT Fun Stuff

Several fun, online activities for children, including quizzes to
test their ICT skills, The Safe Surf Game (see next link).
BT Safe Surf

Part of the BT Education Programme, this site is a fun way for children to learn the basic
elements of how to stay safe on the internet. Click on the link on
this page.
Design a Duck
Yes - this simple but fun simulation game is ideal for the KS2 unit
on simulations. You can download it from the CGP website.
ICT Co-ordinator
A newish site dedicated to ICT Coordinators, especially in secondary, but lots of
generally useful stuff. There are links, downloads, discussion groups and advice.
ICTGCSE

Another redesign and another new address but this A* site goes from, strength to strength.
This is an excellent site for KS4 students. The presentation is clear, the content is
written for students in a way that makes it easy to understand without being atall
patronising. There are project ideas, basic information about ICT Theory and an
interactive quiz (different questions each time.If this doesn't help you improve your
grade nothing will!. Webmaster, David Phillips says, "This web site is designed
to give support to those students who are creating project work for their ICT GCSE. The
mark schemes are related to those of the Edexcel board, but I assume that the project
ideas could be used for any examination board."

Not to be confused with ICTeachers, this site is aimed at ICT
Teachers, with bias towards KS3 and above. There are lots of useful
things here - articles, software to download, games to play, forums,
advice, a useful FAQ (written in straightforward English), an ICT
glossary and a members' area. There is also a very useful links
section.

KS3/4
Modelling

Here is a collection of downloadable files designed to allow delivery and assessment of
the NC levels from level 3 to 6, i.e. to provide a good grounding in the KS3 Modelling
strand. Most files are Excel worksheet and student file combined so that you can print the
file as a worksheet and install it on network / workstations for class and / or
