Government Agencies and Quangos
Many of these sites contain useful educational materials as well as policy documents, links etc.

This is the new main portal for Becta's support for the use of ICT in education. All of Becta's previous sites, such as ICT Advice, NGfL and New2computers have been replaced by this one-stop-shop (Although the Teacher Resource Exchange still has an independent existence - see below).

The DfEE's main site gives access to all the latest Government information and bumph.

The National Archives Learning Curve is an on-line teaching resource, structured to tie in with the History National Curriculum from Key Stages 2 to 5. Designed for teachers, the Learning Curve contains a varied range of original sources including documents, photographs, film and sound recordings.

The blurb on the site says, "This site links every National Curriculum programme of study requirement to high-quality, relevant teaching resources. Hundreds of great websites are included, and rated on their usefulness by teachers themselves. Programme of study requirements are also linked to relevant units in the QCA/DfEE schemes of work".
NACELL
The website of The National Advisory Centre on Early Language Learning, which is an ofshoot of CILT. This is a must-visit site if you are involved in teaching modern foreign languages at KS1 or KS2. There is advice, downloadable resources, information sheets, publishers' details, examples of good practice, a page dedicated to networking (for both teachers and pupils) and information about professional development.

Someone's been listening. Much improved site. Contains information about Ofsted and its work. Much easier access to individual school reports using a sophisticated search tool using School name / Address / Post Code etc. All presented in easily read format.
bullet1.gif (148 bytes) QCA - Qualifications and Curriculum Authority
I thought I was going into the land of grey suits but came out thinking they were dudes! It's actually a real cool site and packed with useful information on assesment from Early Years to Old Age! WELL worth the visit. And it's even got some resources for parents or KS2 children based around Romans and Electricity (not combined I might add!) including a promise for more subjects later. I'll be going back again and for those of you who like smooth sites this one is well lush.

This is one to bookmark. It is the DfEE's own site relating to standards in our schools. The site is full of useful stuff to help schools and teachers get to grips with the demands of education in the new millenium. As well as the schemes of work this site now includes sections on Literacy | Numeracy | Pupil Performance | Gender and Achievement | Study Support | Parental Involvement | Thinking Skills | Excellence in Cities | LEA | Beacon Schools | Other resources

Run by BECTA, this site is a place where teachers can share their good ideas / lesson plans / resources etc. You can submit resources and ideas of your own and / or comment on / add to the ideas and resources which have been submitted by others.

This site has recently undergone major changes and is faster and easier to use. If you need to know what is going on in teacher training, both now and in the future, this site is worth a visit..

Cumbria and Lancashire LEA's superb Virtual Resource Centre has recently been completely updated and is better than ever. Much of the content has a local slant but generally applicable. The site is open access for teachers, parents and pupils anywhere. There is so much here! The old Cleo site is still there CLEO (Old Site)

Lots of useful stuff even if you don't teach in Dudley.
